John R. Bear Shihan holds Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu 9th Dan jujutsu and 7th dan KJR kobudo. He has long standing sports qualifications as a nationally accredited Jujutsu, Iaido, Jodo, and strength & conditioning coach, a sports trainer and first-aider. John also holds black belt ranks in AKR Iaido (Japanese sword) 3rd dan, AKR Jodo (Japanese short staff) 3rd dan, Shotokan karate 3rd dan, with ranks in other martial arts. A recipient of the 2000 Australian Sports Medal from the Australian Government for services to sport in Canberra, he was also inducted into the 2006 Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame (AMAHOF). He is Shihan Sensei of Kokusai Jujutsu Ryu - International Jujutsu Institue, and has been teaching and participating in martial arts in the ACT and region since 1970. He is supported by a group of highly trained black belt instructors in Jujutsu and Kobudo.
